Student-Athlete-Superhuman

Student-athletes can sometimes seem like entirely different beings: incredibly fit and often-intimidating creatures roaming Grounds in official ACC sweatpants, identifiable by the names and numbers attached to their backpacks. Here’s something crazy, though: they’re humans just like the rest of us – except they’re humans who also happen to perform nearly superhuman feats. Our peers in the Athletics Department balance the same academic pressures as everyone else – then they go out and win for the glory of dear Virginia.

No. 8 men's golf continues roll, wins Wolfpack Spring Open

The No. 8 Virginia men’s golf team won its second consecutive tournament Saturday, shooting a 4-over 292 to best second-place Clemson by three strokes at the rain-shortened Wolfpack Spring Open at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. The event was condensed from 54 holes to 18 holes after rain precluded Friday play.


	Aimee Chapdelaine has earned all six of Virginia’s wins this season.

Softball seeks to end season on high note

With one week remaining in the regular season Virginia softball comes crawling to the finish line looking for a more positive end to a disappointing season. The Cavaliers wrap up their home schedule with a Tuesday doubleheader against James Madison and a Wednesday series against Liberty. Virginia’s burden does not get any lighter on Tuesday.

No. 1 Cavaliers host rival UNC in weekend series

The No. 1 Virginia men’s baseball team continues its homestand this weekend as they face ACC rival North Carolina in a three game series. The Cavaliers (31-6, 14-4 ACC) won last weekend’s series against Clemson two games to one and beat William & Mary 11-2 on Wednesday to bring their home record to 21-5 on the season.

Baseball trounces Tribe in make-up game, 11-2

Top-ranked Virginia (31-6, 14-4 ACC) bounced William and Mary (22-14, 6-2 CAA), 11-2, behind Lewicki’s five scoreless innings and a veritable offensive deluge. The Cavaliers captured their 21st win at home as well as 100th in-state win of O’Connor’s tenure while burning through six Tribe pitchers on 14 hits and seven walks.

Cavs down Hokies in season finale, 17-12

Despite a loss Sunday against Maryland, the Virginia women’s lacrosse team still felt it was playing its best of lacrosse of the season. On Wednesday night, the No. 15 Cavaliers (9-7, 3-4 ACC) proved that to be the case as they closed their regular season with a dominant win against in-state rival Virginia Tech (7-8, 0-6 ACC), 17-12.

Women's golf preps for strong field at ACCs

Seeking the first conference title in program history, the Virginia women’s golf team tees off at the ACC Championships on Thursday morning in Greensboro, N.C. The Cavaliers, ranked No. 23 by Golfstat, face a challenging field that features five top-25 opponents.

Youthful Virginia travels to ACC Championships

Just four weekends ago Virginia track and field began its outdoor season with the Virginia Cup in Charlottesville, but now the team already finds itself preparing for the start of the conference championships—such is the nature of track and field in the ACC. Beginning Thursday, the Cavaliers will compete for three days against their conference foes for this season’s title.
