London secures athletic recruiting class

Virginia football coach Mike London announced the Cavaliers had secured commitments from 25 recruits on National Signing Day - the first day recruits can sign binding letters of intent. London touted the athleticism of his 2012 class, which was ranked No.5 in the ACC and No.28 in the nation by scout.com, during a celebration at John Paul Jones Arena. "I'm very excited about this particular class," London said.

Cavaliers defeat Tech, West Va.

The No. 9 Virginia women's tennis team continued its early-season success at Blacksburg yesterday, dominating West Virginia 7-0 in the first match, before downing Virginia Tech 7-0 in the second match to maintain their perfect record. In the morning, the Cavaliers (4-0, 1-0 ACC) swept all three doubles matches, continuing the strong play during singles action as Virginia did not surrender a single set to the Mountaineers (0-3). Sophomore Li Xi cruised at first singles, defeating West Virginia junior Emily Mathis 6-2, 6-1.

Virginia commends field hockey Olympians

The University honored field hockey senior midfielders and 2012 Olympians Paige Selenski and Michelle Vittesse at halftime of the women's basketball team's 62-52 victory against Florida State Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena. Selenski and Vittesse each contributed a goal to the U.S.
