N.C. State packs up for a visit to U-Hall Thursday night in a much-anticipated rematch with the Virginia women's basketball team. The Cavaliers (10-12, 4-7 ACC) lacked an answer to Duke's defense Monday night.

Virginia tourney hopes disappear

Thump, thump, thump.It was a noise heard loud and clear last night in Durham.It wasn't just the sound of the Cameron crazies stomping their feet, nor was it merely the sound of Virginia forward Anna Crosswhite hitting the floor to draw a charge (although she did draw three in the second half).It was instead the sound of Virginia's hopes of making a 20th straight NCAA tournament appearance fall to the floor of Cameron Indoor Stadium. Last night's embarrassing 75-48 loss dropped the Cavaliers to 4-7 in the ACC and 10-12 overall, as well as depleting the talented but youthful Cavaliers' chances of gaining a birth to the NCAA tournament.

Virginia edges Wolfpack in nail-biting win

Virginia held N.C. State scoreless over the last two minutes, 56 seconds, and Wolfpack forward Julius Hodge saw a last-second three-pointer rim out as the Cavaliers stayed undefeated at home with a 61-58 win. Coming off an upset 86-78 victory over eighth-ranked Maryland, the Cavaliers (14-7, 5-4 ACC) rallied from a nine-point second half deficit thanks to a strong defensive effort.
