Women's golf preps for strong field at ACCs

Seeking the first conference title in program history, the Virginia women’s golf team tees off at the ACC Championships on Thursday morning in Greensboro, N.C. The Cavaliers, ranked No. 23 by Golfstat, face a challenging field that features five top-25 opponents.

Youthful Virginia travels to ACC Championships

Just four weekends ago Virginia track and field began its outdoor season with the Virginia Cup in Charlottesville, but now the team already finds itself preparing for the start of the conference championships—such is the nature of track and field in the ACC. Beginning Thursday, the Cavaliers will compete for three days against their conference foes for this season’s title.

No. 4 men's tennis to close season against Hokies

The No. 4 Virginia men’s tennis team concludes its regular season as they take on No. 36 Virginia Tech on Saturday morning in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers moved up one spot in the national rankings after an impressive weekend in which they took down No. 32 North Carolina State and No. 25 Wake Forest.

Following his Liverpool side’s 3-2 triumph over fellow league title challenger Manchester City, Steven Gerrard’s eyes began to leak. Gerrard lost control of his emotions at a juncture when the threat of losing out on the league crown remained quite prevalent. If you know anything about Gerrard’s story, however, you’ll forgive the man a moment of emotion.


	Sophomore attacker Kelly Boyd and the No. 15 Cavaliers play Virginia Tech Wednesday night in their final game of the regular season. Virginia appears to be playing its best lacrosse of the year, with four wins in its past five contests.

Women's lacrosse battles Hokies in Blacksburg

The No. 15 Virginia women’s lacrosse team enters its final regular season game against Virginia Tech Wednesday with a lot on the line. A win against the archrival Hokies would secure not only a year’s worth of bragging rights, but also a likely berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Softball swept by Hokies, fall to 6-35

Virginia softball was swept by in-state rival Virginia Tech as the two faced off this past weekend. The Cavaliers (6-35, 1-19 ACC) had difficulties even staying close with the Hokies (27-16, 16-6 ACC), losing each game by no less than six runs. Virginia Tech claimed the first game, 8-2.

No. 5 Men's tennis breaks ACC all-sport record

In the final two home matches of the season, the No. 5 Virginia men’s tennis team celebrated the careers of its seniors — Alex Domijan, Justin Shane and Ian Uriguen — clinched its 11th consecutive ACC regular season title and broke an all-sport ACC record.

Cavaliers hold annual spring football game

Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville, Virginia football fans of all ages streamed into the sun-painted Scott Stadium for the Cavaliers’ annual Orange-Blue Spring Game to catch an early glimpse of the newest version of Virginia football. “We will be a different team [this fall], but the good thing about it, you know, every aspect of the team we have is improving,” coach Mike London said.

No. 2 Duke overpowers No. 8 Virginia at home, 17-15

The No. 8 Virginia men’s lacrosse team has been in a slump ever since its win against Syracuse March 1. In an effort to turn its season around and qualify for the ACC Tournament against No. 2 Duke — a team that has given them troubles in the past — the high-octane Blue Devil offense overpowered the Cavaliers, 17-15.

After losing in the final minutes in last weekend’s game against ACC rival No. 4 North Carolina, the No. 8 Virginia men’s lacrosse team returns home to face No. 2 Duke in the Cavaliers’ last chance of the season to improve its ACC regular season record.

Softball sweeps Hornets in doubleheader

Sophomore right-hander Aimee Chapdelaine started off the Virginia softball team’s Wednesday doubleheader against Delaware State by twirling a four-hit, complete game shutout in an 8-0 win called after five innings. Then, she stepped back on the mound and one-upped herself, blanking the Hornets on two hits and a walk in the Cavaliers’ 2-0 victory.

Serving up help any way they can

For the four seniors of the No. 4 Virginia women’s tennis team, upsetting top-ranked Duke at home, reaching a program-best No. 3 ranking twice and looking ahead to a potentially deep postseason run are just some of the highlights of their final season. As the younger players continue to be the faces of another successful season, these veteran players play a major behind-the-scenes role in helping the team strive in ways not always visible on the court.
