The Virginia softball team swept in-state rival Virginia Tech this weekend, leaving the Cavaliers (18-13, 5-0 ACC) undefeated in ACC play and with its first series win against the Hokies (13-20, 2-4 ACC) since 2005. Freshman pitcher Melanie Mitchell greatly contributed to Virginia's success, as she took the circle and the win in each stage of the three-game set. The No. 1 Virginia men's tennis team will take on Miami today at the Snyder Tennis Center followed by a doubleheader Sunday against Florida State and Delaware. Depending on whether it rains, the Miami match may be played indoors, forcing the Cavaliers to deal with a change in surfaces.
The Virginia women's tennis team will get into the heart of its ACC schedule when it heads down to Florida this weekend for a doubleheader against Florida State and Miami, the highest ranked teams Virginia has played thus far. The Cavaliers enter the weekend after winning seven of their last eight matches, including a 5-2 win Sunday against Virginia Tech - a victory that was much closer than the score may seem to indicate. "There were definitely some points during that match, even in the singles, where it looked like it could of turned the other way," sophomore Emily Fraser said.
