Cavaliers reserve two tickets to Terre Haute

The Virginia men's and women's cross country teams faced their toughest challenges of the season Saturday, competing in the Southeast Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky. With only the top two teams automatically qualifying for nationals, the season was on the line for both squads.

There's only so much you can take away from Friday's season opener against Longwood, but game one of the Tony Bennett era certainly presented some of the new coach's principles that will be put to the test against better competition in the near future. I've heard concerns that Bennett's defense-first approach will translate into dull, low-scoring games, with the offense primarily operating in half-court sets.

Squad earns first ACC title in five years

The No. 6 Virginia men's soccer team defeated No. 20 N.C. State 1-0 to win the ACC Tournament Sunday in Cary, N.C, grabbing the ACC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore defender Hunter Jumper whipped a cross into the box to senior midfielder Jordan Evans, who flicked a header to freshman forward Will Bates.

With nine weeks behind us, the NFL regular season is more or less half finished. Other than the Texans and the Giants, who have yet to have their bye weeks, each team has eight games played and eight games yet to play. It's a bit too early to start talking about the various scenarios detailing which teams make the playoffs, depending on the outcomes of certain games.
