Squad loses first game of season against Loyola despite early lead

The young Virginia women's lacrosse team experienced its first setback of the season, dropping its season opener against Loyola (Md.)15-11 at University Hall Turf Field Saturday. The Cavaliers got off to a fast start in the contest, scoring their first goal of the season within the first minute to go up 1-0 against the Greyhounds.

Basketball falls to Clemson in lopsided defeat on road

After enduring a disappointing 19-point home loss to Florida State last Wednesday, coach Tony Bennett joked afterward that at least Virginia reached the 50-point mark with freshman guard Tristan Spurlock's basket during the game's final seconds. But against Clemson Saturday, Bennett could find no such silver lining, as the Cavaliers fell by an even wider margin, 72-49.

Cavaliers begin season with new crop of young starters

The No. 10 Virginia women's lacrosse team begins its spring campaign Saturday at home against Loyola (Md.). The Cavaliers take the field this season without many of the stars who carried the 2009 squad, which lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Blair Weymouth and Ashley McCulloch both graduated, as did senior leaders Jenny Hauser and Jen Holden.

Matmen face ACC-stalwart Maryland on Senior Night

The Cavalier matmen square off against Maryland tomorrow during Senior Night in their final match before postseason play. They face a menacing Terrapin squad ranked first in the ACC and led by senior Hudson Taylor, who ranks first in the NCAA with 22 pins on the season, including one during the Terrapins' last match against Hofstra.
