Although my esteemed colleague and fellow columnist Mr. Schwab already is looking ahead to the upcoming basketball season, I would like to take one last look back at the now-finished baseball season that culminated in the World Series victory of the Rally Monkey -- I mean, the Angels. Despite threats of a strike and lockout that loomed over baseball like an ominous thunder cloud most of the summer, this season will have a lasting impact on the sport and one player's place in baseball history. Before elaborating, I would just like to mention that with Nostredamas-like foresight, I believe a certain Cavalier Daily columnist predicted the clash of titanic proportions that took center stage this past Sunday night: Rally Monkey vs.

Women's rowing finishes high at Princeton Chase The Virginia women's rowing "A" boat finished third in the women's eights competition and the "B" boat finished second in the women's fours competition in Sunday's Princeton Chase event in Princeton, N.J. Host Princeton won the women's eights competition with a time of 14 minutes, 53.6 seconds.

Playing half the game not always enough to win

ATLANTA, Ga. The Cavaliers, who before Saturday's game averaged more than twice as many points in the second half than in the first, seemed all set to write another miracle comeback script Saturday, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. After three consecutive receptions, one by senior receiver Billy McMullen and two by freshman Jason Snelling, junior quarterback Matt Schaub called his own number on a quarterback draw that put the Cavaliers on the Virginia 40-yard line.

Virginia dominates American in fourth straight home win

Dominating the first half of play, the Virginia men's soccer team extended its three-game winning streak to four, edging the American Eagles by a score of 2-1 Saturday night at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers got off to a quick start as junior forward Alecko Eskandarian scored on the opening kickoff, punching in an easy goal only nine seconds into the game. "We got a little bit of a lucky bounce, but then Alecko just ran by people," Virginia Coach George Gelnovatch said.
