Four Cavs earn ACC football honors

Four Virginia football players earned weekly honors from the ACC this week for their roles in the Cavaliers' 47-26 win over N.C. State Saturday.

Tailback Thomas Jones shared the Offensive Back of the Week award with Clemson quarterback Woodrow Dantzler. Jones rushed 38 times for a career-high 221 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over the Wolfpack.

Jones also became the first player in ACC history to have four 200-yard games in his career. He is second in the nation in rushing this season, averaging 158.4 yards per game.

Fourth-year tackle Brad Barnes earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades as he helped pave the way for the Cavs' season-high, 281 yards on the ground. Barnes made the key block on two of Jones' three touchdown runs.

Middle linebacker Yubrenal Isabelle was tapped as the Conference's Defensive Lineman of the Week. He had seven tackles, all solo. He also recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass in the third quarter and returned it for 19 yards to set up Virginia's second touchdown of the third quarter.

First-year wide receiver Billy McMullen was named the ACC Rookie of the Week. McMullen had four receptions for a team season-high, 109 yards and two touchdowns. He is the first true freshman to catch two touchdown passes in a game since Germane Crowell in 1994.

Tiki leads Giants past Cowboys

Former Cavalier Tiki Barber's efforts Monday night led the New York Giants to a 13-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Barber, a 1996 Commerce School graduate, returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown and then took a short pass 56 yards to set up Brad Daluiso's 21-yard, game-winning field goal with one second left in the game.

The score was knotted at three with 7:50 left in the fourth quarter when Barber made his first play. He totaled 233 all-purpose yards in the game.

The Blue Devils took the title with a score of 10-over-par 586, leading the field by three strokes.

Virginia top finisher James Driscoll ended the tournament at three-over-par, good for 10th place. He moved up from a tie for 37th Sunday with a round of 71 Monday.

Cameron Yancey was Virginia's second-man with an eight-over-par performance and a tie for 31st.

Virginia compiled a 605 final score, finishing at 29-over-par.
