Armed assailants rob two students

Charlottesville Police have one man in custody and are pursuing another suspect following an armed robbery on University Circle Friday night.

The incident took place outside 41 University Circle at 10:40 p.m. when two black males held two male University students at gunpoint when they were walking home to 14th Street, Charlottesville Police Sgt. Jim Pace said.

Police say Friday night's incident may be linked to the alleged Feb. 23 robbery at Lambeth Field Apartments.

In that incident, two masked men allegedly entered a Lambeth apartment and robbed its four male residents after tying them up in the living room area, Det. Blaine Cosgro said.

In Friday night's incident, one of the aggressors had a gun but the other was unarmed, Cosgro said.

The victims' wallets and personal items were reported stolen but recovered soon after the incident.

Police apprehended Bryan Page, a 29-year-old black male, shortly after the incident following an "extensive foot pursuit," Cosgro said. Page had been under investigation for other robberies, including last month's Lambeth robbery.

The two victims identified Page as the alleged gunman, but police were unable to recover the weapon.

Page currently is being held without bail on two felony counts of armed robbery and two felony counts of using a firearm during the commission of an armed robbery, Cosgro said.

The victims were not harmed during the holdup.

Police still are investigating the incident and searching for the other suspect.

Page has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 27.
