Intruders assault student in Faulkner, police investigate

A Faulkner Apartments resident reported that three men entered his suite and assaulted him around 11:45 Monday night.

The three men allegedly beat the victim with a chair, their feet and their fists, Sgt. Cassandra Carter said.

University Police responded to a 911 call made by someone who heard and saw the victim running in the courtyard, but no arrests have been made. The victim described the assailants as three black males.

If caught and arrested, the assailants face charges of aggravated assault, a felony punishable by one to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $2,500 or both punishments.

Carter said the victim refused treatment although he was hurt by the alleged attack.

University Police Capt. Mike Coleman said the victim thinks the alleged assault could be related to a previous disagreement, but Carter said the victim did not tell University Police if he knew the assailants.

"We are continuing to investigate the case," Coleman said.

He said the police do not think there is a connection between the alleged assault and the robbery at Lambeth Field Apartments Feb. 23.

Asst. Dean of Students Aaron Laushway advised students to be cautious and careful.

Kevin Campbell, third-year College student and Hench resident, said that in spite of the incident, he personally feels safe in the area.
