UJC selects Percopo as chairwoman

The University Judiciary Committee held its executive committee elections last night. Elected officers, including College Rep. Lissa Percopo, who was named Chairwowan, will begin their term Sunday.

This year's elections featured three uncontested races and saw all three College representatives win positions on the executive committee.

College Rep. Max Weigard will serve as vice chairman for first years. Law School Rep. Tillman Breckenridge is the new vice chairman for trials, and College Rep. Paul Gigante will be vice chairman for sanctions. All three vice chairman elections were uncontested.

The three vice chairman positions are relatively new executive committee positions. Before 1995, the executive committee consisted of one chairman and two general vice chairmen.

Percopo, who was a senior educator for the Committee this year, said she will stress education, confidentiality, efficiency and communication in the coming year.

She said she also hopes to strengthen Committee relationships with other University groups including the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Office of the Dean of Students, Greek organizations and Resident Staff. She added that she wants to initiate regular informational contact with representatives from all 10 schools to keep the entire University up to date on Committee endeavors.

"Next year is not going to be easy, but it's going to be a great year for UJC," Percopo said. "I've had nothing but wonderful experiences working with the other executive officers before."

She said the number of uncontested races for this year's executive committee surprised her, especially considering the large number of people who ran for Committee representative positions.

Weigard, who was a Committee counselor this year, said the unopposed races show how much faith and respect the Committee has in the three candidates who ran.

Current Committee Chairman Brian Hudak said he has full confidence in the new executive officers. "Next year's executive committee is going to do a great job. All four have already shown dedication to the Committee and are willing to put in the time and effort to facilitate UJC's purpose in the University community"
