Coins for Culture

Coins commemorating the 1,000th anniversary of Leif Ericson's discovery of the New World will benefit U.Va. graduate students interested in Icelandic history and culture. The sale of these coins will help raise funds for the Leifur Eiríksson Foundation at the University, a program designed to facilitate exchange and cultural awareness of the sparsely populated country. The Foundation, created last Spring, will also work hand in hand with the White House Millennium Commission to celebrate Ericson's historic arrival. This cultural promotion will be one way of improving the University's efforts at international education and achieving some of the goals of the Virginia 2020 plan.
