Wild concert sells out Mem Gym
The shadows of the Central Grounds Parking Garage casted down upon the small group huddled in the alleyway between the garage and Memorial Gymnasium Saturday evening.
The group of floridly dressed people pointed their fingers high in the air, desperately seeking tickets to String Cheese Incident's 8 p.m. concert at Mem Gym. And it already was 15 till.
Few bands, grassroots local bands especially, have such a strong resonance with a large number of people.
The show sold out all 2,000 tickets over a week ago, said University Program Council's PK German chairman Jbeau Lewis, a third-year College student.
No tickets were to be found.
Naturally, things got interesting during the concert.
"There were definitely illegal things going on," said second-year College student Andrew Irby, who went to the popular concert. "There was smoking, but I guess that goes with the fans following the band."
"It was a positive experience altogether," said Lewis.
The concert was one of the few sellouts among major on-Grounds concerts in recent years, Lewis added.
