After overwhelming Purdue 98-79 Wednesday night with unshakable defense, the Virginia men's basketball team takes its zone press to Virginia Military Institute in Lexington Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Cavaliers (4-0) hope to extend their best start since the 1992-93 squad began the season 11-0.
"It's going to be a tough game on the road," sophomore guard Roger Mason Jr. said. "Any Virginia team is a rival, so they're going to be ready to play us hard. We're starting to play well and get a little notoriety, so we have a little target on our backs. We just have to be ready to play."
The No. 21 Cavs certainly looked ready to play Wednesday, forcing 23 turnovers and converting them into 27 points. They out-rebounded the Boilermakers 19-10. Senior point guard Donald Hand and junior forward Chris Williams led the Cavaliers offensively with 24 points apiece.
But Virginia coach Pete Gillen, a former VMI assistant coach, isn't patting himself on the back yet.
