Virginia's club baseball team topped Virginia Tech in both games of Saturday doubleheader. The Cavaliers hosted the Hokies at Charlottesville's Burley Field. The Virginia team, which leads the Mid-Atlantic South Conference with an 8-2 record, won the first game handily, earning a 6-1 victory as freshman pitcher Nick Kimbrell threw six scoreless innings and recorded seven strikeouts. The Hokies endured an offensive explosion by the Cavaliers in the nightcap, falling 14-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Every starter for the Virginia club team had at least one hit in the contest. Club President Karl Brimmer was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and freshman Ron Brown was also 2-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore Shawn Roe hit a three-run homerun to centerfield and junior Brady Lauback also went yard with a two-run blast. Freshman pitcher John Arseneau, who tossed four shutout innings, also contributed with his bat, hitting two doubles and scoring three runs. The Cavalier club team will next hit the field Saturday, April 19 for a conference doubleheader at Richmond.
