The Virginia track and field team traveled to Durham over the weekend to compete in the Duke Invitational. The team's performance was highlighted by four event titles and one school record.
Virginia fared well in the field portion of the meet. Senior Vika Osipenko broke her own school record by 14 centimeters in the pole vault, placing second overall. Senior Eliese Mitchell also had a great weekend, as she medaled in all three of her events. Mitchell won the discus throw while placing second in the hammer and third in the shot. Graduate student Brian Kollar took home the javelin title, while senior Kiamesha Otey placed second in the long jump. Freshman Rachel Marks set a personal record and finished third in the high jump. Sophomore Annie Bobiak also placed third in the javelin. For the men, sophomore Mike Riso finished fourth in the high jump.
The Cavaliers also fared well in the races. Senior Scott Kimball ran to a first place finish in the 100 meter dash, while placing eighth in the 200. He set personal records in both events. Graduate students Carielle Doe and Natalie Randolph also recorded personal bests. Doe finished fifth in the 400, while Randolph took fourth in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Otey came away with another medal, finishing third in 100. The women's relay teams capped off the successful weekend by scoring victories in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
