Field Hockey stumbles against ACC foe North Carolina, falling 5-1

The Cavaliers had their chance to prove they belong among the nation's elite when they met the No. 2 ranked Tar Heels Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for Virginia, things didn't go quite as well as planned. After taking a 1-0 lead on Katie Phillips goal in the 17th minute of play, the Cavaliers proceeded to surrender five consecutive goals in a 1-5 losing effort. Hoping to take a lead into halftime, Virginia allowed the game-tying goal with two seconds to play in the first half. After the break, Carolina (8-0) proved to be too much to handle as they tacked on four more scores sending the Cavalier record to 5-2 for the season. Field hockey next hosts the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, Sep. 24 at 7:00 p.m.
