Women's volleyball extended their school-record winning streak to 16 games this past weekend with three decisive victories on their way to capturing first place in the National Invitational. Wins over Boise State, Gardner-Webb and Davidson led the Cavaliers to their fourth consecutive tournament title.
In addition, the team set a school-record for hitting percentage, hitting .489 in their win Saturday afternoon over Gardner-Webb. This mark surpassed the eight-year-old record of .487 and was spurred on by fourth-year outside hitter Paige Davis's team-high hitting percentage of .667. Later Saturday night, U.Va. completed their sweep with a 30-20, 30-25, 30-15 silencing of Davidson in Belk Arena. Following the match, U.Va. received another honor when third-year middle hitter Alexis Geocaris was chosen as Most Valuable Player for the weekend. In the Davidson game alone, she led the charge with 13 kills, a .440 hitting percentage, five digs and three blocks. The Cavaliers will try and continue their success this Friday, Sept. 26 when they begin ACC play against Wake Forest in Memorial Gym at 7:00 p.m.
