Mattingly returns to Bronx in coaching shuffle

The New York Yankees will welcome back former first baseman Don Mattingly, but this time as a coach. The former Yankee captain has accepted the offer to become New York's newest hitting coach, after former hitting coach Rick Down was fired last week by owner George Steinbrenner.

This latest coaching change has been one of many for the Yankees. Don Zimmer quit his position as bench coach immediately after New York's World Series defeat. This propelled third base coach Willie Randolph to bench coach.

Lee Mazelli, the first base coach for the past four years, will move over to third to fill in for Randolph, while former Yankee player Luis Sojo will take over at first.
