Men's and women's swimming and diving win at Clemson, South Carolina

The Virginia men's and women's swimming and diving teams took down the Clemson Tigers Saturday afternoon, starting out their ACC conference schedule with a win. The previous day, both Cavalier squads defeated South Carolina.

Saturday, the No. 9 men's squad took a 137.5-105.5 decision over the Tigers, making their record 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. The men won eight of 13 events in the meet, coasting to the conference win behind sophomore Fran Crippen, who won three of Virginia's eight events. Crippen took first place in the 1000-, 200- and 500-freestyle.

Five other Virginia swimmers ­-- Bo Greenwood, Michael Raab, Luke Wagner, Vanja Roqulj and Pete Amstutz -- tallied victories in events for the Cavaliers in the win.

The No. 17 women's team also took in a victory against the Tigers with a 151-90 win, improving to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in the ACC. The Cavaliers took 10 of 13 events in the meet with freshmen Kimi Kelly also garnering three victories. Kelly took the 1000-freestyle-, 200-butterfly and 500-freestyle for Virginia.

Senior Katie Prior swept the diving events for the first time in her career with wins in the one-meter board, with a 227.62, and three-meter competition, with a 216.37.

Virginia hosts Georgia Tech this Friday in another ACC match-up with the diving competition starting at 1 p.m. and the meet at 2 p.m.
