Noah Sullivan steps up

Student Council President-elect Noah Sullivan describes himself as a "work-hard, play-hard guy."

A second-year in the College, Sullivan served as First Year Council President and will complete his term as current Council President Daisy Lundy's Chief of Staff before taking office as Council President.

"I am a very passionate and energetic person about what I'm interested in," Sullivan said. "There's definitely a perception of me as a politico and an ambitious guy."

At E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Sullivan said he split his time between theater, forensics, model General Assembly and government club.

"I was the typical high school overachiever who ends up going to U.Va.," he said.

Council Vice President for Administration Will Sowers has known Sullivan since his first year.

"My first interaction with Noah was when I was trying to revoke first year parking privileges and he was First Year Council President," he said. "Noah proved to be a great advocate for his constituents."

As chief of staff, Sullivan said he is most proud of his work with housing and Council committees. Sullivan has worked extensively with the Student Tenant Bill of Rights, the Office of Off-Grounds Housing and the recent consolidation of Council's committee structure.

As Council President, Sullivan said he hopes to make relevant changes at the University.

"Student Council is a way for me to change things in a meaningful way," he said. "Leadership is about having a vision. In leading Council and advocating for the student body, there is a great opportunity to change things."

Sullivan, however, claims he is not just an ambitious politico.

"If I'm hanging out with friends on the weekend, some people will see me and say, 'Hey, there's Noah Sullivan,' like I'm supposed to be in Newcomb all the time, but I'm really just a student," he said. "I have to balance a social life."

Outside of student government, Sullivan spends his time with the University Democrats and the Jefferson Society. He also plays racquetball and tennis when he can.

"He's kind of goofy, but in a good way," Sowers said. "He always added humor to our exec board meetings."

Sullivan acknowledged, however, that working as Council president will be a serious task.

Sullivan said he has laid out ambitious plans for his administration.

"I hope to instill a sense of purpose in Council as an organization and get people to buy into a vision of what U.Va. can be," he said. "I want to make sure we are advocating for the best interest of the University. Progress and setting larger goals is important."
