ACC expansion puts new twist on traditional Virginia-Va. Tech rivalry

Another element will be added to the Virginia-Virginia Tech rivalry tonight when the two schools' women's basketball teams tip off for the first time as conference foes. The Cavaliers (14-5, 3-2 ACC) have won 10 of their last 12 games and are currently tied with North Carolina at fourth place in the conference standings.

Virginia Tech (12-5, 2-3) is making the trek up Interstate 81 having lost three of its last four games, most recently in overtime at home against Florida State. Although the Cavaliers enjoy a 25-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Hokies, Virginia Tech defeated the Cavaliers in their past two meetings including a 63-62 upset victory over then-No. 24 Virginia last year at U-Hall.
