This weekend, Starr Hill is rocking out for a cause. While the venue regularly delivers solid entertainment, this weekend it will change gears to also make a difference. February 5th, Starr Hill's benefit for South Asian tsunami victims will feature various bands.
National as well as local bands will donate their talent. The Damnwells, heralded by Billboard as "earthy, straight-ahead rock'n'roll," are headlining the benefit concert.
Charlottesville native Andy Waldeck will bring his acoustic rock home for the event, and Travis Elliot, recently highlighted at the Starr Hill Emerging Artists Showcase, will also play. The night will include performances by members of Indecision and DJ Quarter-Roy. This range of bands, solo artists and a DJ will bring a diverse blend of entertainment with something for all musical tastes.
All of Saturday's ticket sales and donations will go directly to the Bama Works Village Recovery Fund, developed by Dave Matthews Band, which provides charity to local and international organizations. Dave Matthews Band and MusicToday, a Charlottesville-based provider of behind the scenes services, will match all the proceeds.
"This show allows music lovers and bands to come together for a night that benefits the desperate cause of those affected by the tsunami," said Del Wood, chief operating officer of MusicToday. "We're sure that the generosity of the artists who are donating their talent to the evening will be surpassed by those in attendance who give to this worthy cause."
In the wake of the devastation caused by the tsunami, this project will highlight a village on the east coast of Sri Lanka and will maintain a long-term partnership with it to rebuild the village. The effects of the tsunami spread from South Asia to the coast of Africa, destroying countless villages.
Make a difference this weekend: stop by Starr Hill this Saturday for a variety of musical acts with a great cause.
