Cavalier Softball blanked by Lady Volunteers

The Virginia softball team fell to No. 4 Tennessee 10-0 yesterday at the Park. It was this season's first game against a ranked opponent for Virginia.

The Cavaliers were outplayed by the Volunteers both offensively and defensively. The Tennessee bats produced 12 hits compared to the Cavaliers' six. In the field, Virginia committed two errors in the first and sixth innings, whereas Tennessee did not commit any errors.

The game's winning pitcher, Tennessee sophomore Monica Abbott, threw seven innings of six-hit, 12-strikeout softball. With the win, her record stands at 25-1.

The Cavalier pitching struggled against the Tennessee hitters. Virginia's starting pitcher, sophomore Coty Tolar, lasted four and a third innings after giving up four earned runs.

The Cavaliers' loss puts them at 10-16 on the year. In addition, it was Virginia's fourth loss to Tennessee in the last six tries.
