The Virginia men's tennis team looks to have a very promising season after dominating the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings. Announced Tuesday, the Cavaliers had more singles players ranked in the top 125 than any other school with seven, while three doubles teams also received rankings.
The Cavaliers were the only team to have three players ranked in the top 16 nationally in singles. Two-time All-American Doug Stewart is ranked No. 6, while sophomore Somdev Devvarman and senior Rylan Rizza are ranked No. 12 and No. 16, respectively. The rankings are the highest both players have received in their careers.
Ranked No. 45 is senior Darrin Cohen, with junior Marko Miklo is No. 61 and sophomore Treat Huey is No. 122. Sophomore Jarrett Chirico earned his first career ranking at No. 125.
The doubles team of seniors Rizza and Nick Meythaler are ranked No. 7 with sophomores Devvarman and Huey not far behind with a career-high ranking of No. 12. Ranked at No. 44 for the first time as a team are seniors Cohen and Stewart.
These preseason rankings for both the singles and doubles players will be used during the fall season, with the Cavaliers looking forward to the first team rankings which will come out in January.
