Virginia men's tennis player Somdev Devvarman beat Daniel Wendler Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals in the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic.

Devvarman won in two sets (7-5, 6-2) ousting Wendler, the No. 661 ranked tennis player in the world. Honia Tecau, seeded No. 2 in the tournament, will play Devvarman Friday to determine who will move on to the semifinals.

The USTA Futures Tour gives players a chance to develop their status as professionals. College athletes are permitted to participate in the tournaments, however, they are not allowed to receive prize money.
