Less crowded, not less tasty

Uh oh. You mean you haven't had dinner reservations for Family Weekend at a chic steakhouse or nouveau American cafe since, oh, four weeks ago? If you got a little too caught up in midterms to starch the linens in your dorm room, make little "Welcome to C'ville!" baskets with hand-glazed almonds and score reservations for six at a posh downtown restaurant, don't worry. Even if you're not the world's best host, there are still plenty of dining options for you and the fam this weekend.

In your search for a place to get fed, don't be alarmed if the more "conventional" places are booked up.

But remember -- there's no law that says you must eat crab cakes and filet on Family Weekend. Venture to some of Charlottesville's quirkier dining options and you'll find a rich array of ethnic eateries that are both delicious and less likely to book up.

For an upscale Thai experience, try Lime Leaf Thai in the Rio Hill Shopping Center. Known for its beautiful dining room and lots of vegetarian dishes, the restaurant serves lunch from 11 a.m.
