An inclusive holiday season

"SILENT night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright round yon Virgin Mary and child." These words from the traditional Christmas carol "Silent Night" are appropriate for Christians, but what if a non-Christian were forced to sing them? Last Friday, a federal appeals court revived a parent's court challenge in South Orange-Maplewood, a school district in New Jersey. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
