Virginia Tech Incident Review Panel holds final public meeting at Darden

The Virginia Tech Incident Review Panel met Wednesday at the University to discuss the legal options for dealing with students whose mental conditions may pose threats to campus safety.

The meeting, held at the Darden School, was the panel's fourth and final public meeting since it was created by Gov. Tim Kaine in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. The meeting featured the testimonies of experts in the fields of campus law enforcement, psychiatric law and campus psychology.

The panel then heard comments from members of the public, including several parents of Virginia Tech victims.

In his welcoming address, University President John T. Casteen, III thanked the panel members for their work and praised their talents.

"I wonder how one draws rational conclusions from such an irrational event, yet I believe in this panel, we have the ability to do that," he said.
