Film Symposium

Starting tomorrow alongside the opening night of the Virginia Film Festival, Harry Chontier, NYU film professor and former VP of Twentieth Century Fox, will be leading a four-day course. The symposium includes private screenings and seven class meetings that will introduce students and adults to screenwriters, directors and producers participating in the festival.

For the Bible Tells Me So

Director Daniel G. Karslake looks at the intersection of religion and homosexuality in his documentary For the Bible Tells Me So. Karslake follows five Christian families who are all coping with the knowledge that one of their members is gay. The documentary unfolds as these families attempt to reconcile love of a child with love of the Teachings.

Chales Burnett

Among the most talented directors of the last 50 years, Charles Burnett is widely acclaimed as one of the greats among film aficionados but is rarely seen outside indie-film circuits. Fortunately for fans and the uninitiated alike, Burnett will be displaying and speaking about two of his films at this year's festival: Killer of Sheep Thursday and My Brother's Wedding Friday

But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
