Virginia men's tennis to face Old Dominion, Boston College

The Virginia men's tennis team denied Ohio State University another national championship this past weekend by becoming the first ACC team to win the ITA National Team Indoor tournament. Senior Somdev Devvarman led his team to a 4-1 victory in the national championship while capturing the Most Outstanding Player award at the tournament. As if his resume wasn't impressive enough, Devvarman also took home the ACC Player of the Week award for the sixth time in his career after winning 3 of 3 singles matches and 4 of 4 doubles matches with his partner, fellow senior Treat Huey.

The Cavaliers look to carry their championship-caliber momentum into this weekend's matches where Old Dominion and Boston College are poised for upsets. ODU is ranked No. 39 in the ITA Rankings and will try to rebound from a harsh 4-1 loss to the No. 21 VCU Rams.

Dispatching the Monarchs will be no easy task for the Cavaliers, as they boast an impressive 13-5 overall record. The Monarchs are led by senior Aleksandr Seleznev, who looks to improve on a 9-4 singles record against opposing teams' top-ranked players. Seleznev and senior Rodrigo Souza lead the team in overall singles match wins with 16 and 17 respectively.

The Cavaliers will follow the 1 p.m. ODU match with another at 6 p.m. against a weak Boston College team. The Eagles have had a disappointing season thus far, posting a 3-3 record and giving Virginia reason to expect to add another victory to its recent winning streak.
