Men's lax downs UNC in OT

The Virginia men's lacrosse team pulled out its third overtime win of the season Saturday, defeating North Carolina 12-11 at Chapel Hill.

Down 11-8 with just under 3.5 minutes to play in regulation, the No. 4 Cavaliers (10-1, 1-1 ACC) rallied with goals by junior Steve Giannone and senior Ben Rubeor to come within 1?. With 17 seconds remaining on the clock, junior Danny Glading sent the game into overtime as his second goal of the day evened the score at 11-all.

The Cavaliers went on to secure their first conference victory of the season when Giannone scored on a rebound late in the extra period. With the loss, the sixth-ranked Tar Heels (7-3, 0-3 ACC) remained winless in conference play.

Virginia senior goalkeeper Bud Petit made his first start in three years against the Tar Heels. He recorded a career-high 13 saves, including the save that gave Virginia its final possession of regulation, leading to Glading's tying goal.
