Sophomore Amory Davis led the Virginia men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 15-team VCU Shootout Tuesday. The team shot a 3-over 287 in Tuesday’s final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament held at Hermitage Country Club, a par-71 course. The Cavaliers completed the tournament with a score of 6-under 846.
Wake Forest cruised to victory with a score of 27-under 825, 16 shots better than second-place finishers Augusta State and VCU, who tied with a score of 11-under 841. Wichita State placed fifth with a score of 849, and Virginia Tech closed with 850 to finish sixth.
Davis contributed his finest collegiate performance to the Cavaliers’ fourth-place finish, shooting 1-under 70 in the final round to complete the tournament at 6-under 207, which was good for a tie for sixth overall. Freshman Ben Kohles finished 14th overall at 1-under 212.
The Cavaliers travel to Notre Dame next week for the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic scheduled for Oct. 6 to 7.
