In an attempt to diversify its products, Coca-Cola is preparing to release a sweetened, fruity, carbonated milk to American consumers. Developed in laboratories in Atlanta, Ga., the Vio products are a mixture of skim milk, sparkling water, fruit flavoring and real cane sugar. Vio comes in four flavors: peach mango, very berry, tropical colada and citrus burst. To prevent curdling without refrigeration, Vio is sold in an eight-ounce aluminum bottle that sells for about $2.50.. While Vio has only been launched in New York so far, Coca-Cola hopes to see some of the success that carbonated milk products have had in Asian markets. They are anticipating that American consumers will look to these latest products to get 15 percent of their daily calcium intake. If released nationally, Vio may be marketed as a healthy nutritional drink to fit in with recent consumer health concerns; however, its 26 grams of sugar and 1.5 grams of fat per bottle may make this a difficult sell. Most notably, one Coca-Cola copywriter has said that the Vio product tastes "like a birthday party for a polar bear."\n-compiled by Jade Hall
