Peabody elevator motor overheats

Local police and fire departments responded to an incident that occurred at Peabody Hall yesterday at 11:56 a.m., University Police Sgt. Michael Blakey said.

Officials were dispatched in response to a general fire alarm. Upon further investigation, officials determined that the alarm sounded after an elevator motor had overheated, causing smoke to collect in the elevator motor room. No fire was present and the smoke was contained to the single room.

The fire department brought in fans to ventilate the area, and the building was reopened by 12:01 p.m.
