Student Council's Student Life Committee announced last week that the Charles L. Brown Science & Engineering Library will resume its extended exam hours during the upcoming final exam period in May. The Committee also noted that UVAirBus had a successful run during Spring Break, and Committee members are already looking to relaunch the program next year for Fall Break.
During Spring Break, UVAirBus shuttled 67 students to and from the Richmond International Airport for $15 each way. The Committee did not run buses to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, said Aagya Mathur, Council chief of cabinet and former Student Life Committee co-chair.
"Students are finding that it's much more convenient for them to get a ride there or to take a taxi because it's only 20 minutes away," Mathur said. "The price difference, especially if two people share a taxi, is $15 each."
Mathur also added that requests for tickets to Richmond were significantly higher than that for the Charlottesville Airport, so it was more economical for Council to only shuttle passengers to Richmond.
Mathur noted that although the Council fell short of breaking even during the Fall Break run, it had enough of a buffer in its budget to allow them to continue with the program for Spring Break, This time, Council came only $100 short of breaking even - and the U.Va Parents Committee will cover the difference, Mathur added.
"Earlier this semester, they agreed to provide a contingency fund for us, so if we don't break even, they will help cover the additional cost," Mathur said.
The Committee allowed students to suggest additional specific departure times when the Spring Break schedule was released online in early February to accommodate varying flight schedules better. Although Committee members received 71 requests among the three airports -
