Technology of the Week: Robot Clones

Who: The female "Robo-Clone" Geminoid F, developed by designer Kokoro with Intelligent Robotics Laboratory

What: The Geminoid F, which was modeled after a real woman, realistically mimics expressions and speech. The clone is an updated, more efficient version of Kokoro's previous robo-clones in terms of mimicking facial expressions. The robot uses a camera to determine and reproduce an operator's expression, while performing other unspoken gestures. The robo-clone comes complete with silicone skin, black hair and white teeth. Despite these improvements, it still is half the cost of its predecessor - cutting the price tag to $105,780.

The Future: Kokoro predicts many practical uses for the robot, including automated receptionist and hospital work which would revolutionize the job market.
