Results from testing the University emergency notification systems last week revealed that the siren system, which works to alert students outside on Grounds, did not function as expected.
"The manufacturer and installer of the system are on site for the test and are reviewing the system performance information. They will create an action plan to address the issues identified for our review," Marge Sidebottom, director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness, said in a University press release.
On the other hand, other parts of the emergency notification system worked as planned. Text messaging, mass e-mail, LCD and LED screens across Grounds and virginia.edu notifications warnings all worked as expected.
The University Alerts website encourages students to sign up for the U.Va critical alerts RSS feed to find accurate information about emergencies.
