Quake hits Richmond, local area

An earthquake's epicenter hit an area 20 miles north of Richmond, Va., about 4:17 p.m. Saturday. Its effects were felt in nearby cities including Charlottesville, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The minor earthquake had a reported magnitude of 3.0 and was felt in cities as far as 339 miles away, according to the USGS website.

No injuries or damages were reported after the earthquake hit. Minor earthquakes are not uncommon in the state.
