WHO: After more than 10 years of design work, Canadian inventor Raymond Li has developed the first marketable water-powered jetpack, the JetLev.
WHAT: The JetLev is a personal jetpack that can lift the pilot up to 30 feet in the air and fly forward at 22 mph. The water-powered device consists of a backpack, a 10-meter hose and an engine. The jetpack generates about 430 pounds of thrust through two side nozzles that take in water from a surrounding body of water to propel a person upwards. The JetLev is expected to go on sale for $136,600.\n\nTHE FUTURE: After the Dubai International Boat Show in March, the jetpack will be available for purchase. The JetLev could be used for water rescues or marine inspections, but currently the manufacturer, MS Watersports GmbH, is considering leasing JetLevs to resorts and charter yacht companies.
