Del. David Toscano announced last Thursday via Twitter that he will seek another two-year term for the 57th District seat in the Virginia General Assembly. Thus far, Toscano is the only person to announce plans to run for the seat.
"I'm excited to officially announce I am running for reelection," Toscano said on his Twitter page. "Thanks for your support and let's get to work!"
Toscano also made a YouTube video, in which he invites supporters to join him for a campaign kickoff in Tonsler Park May 1.
"I've had the great privilege of representing people from the 57th district in the Virginia House of Delegates for the last six years," Toscano said in the video. "Today, I want to ask for the opportunity to serve you once again for a another two years, for another term."
Toscano has represented the 57th district, which includes Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County, in the House of Delegates since 2005. Prior to his election, he served on the Charlottesville City Council for 12 years and as mayor for two years.
Legislative goals for Toscano include improving education, infrastructure and environmental policies. He also intends to pass legislation that will facilitate economic expansion for people from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds, according to his website.
As a delegate for the University community, Toscano states on his website that one of his legislative goals is "assisting U.Va. in its role as one of the best public universities in the nation."
