Car strikes Greenhouse

An automobile struck the Greenhouse apartment building on 14th Street during an accident Monday at around 10:34 p.m.

A Jeep Cherokee was traveling down 14th Street when a Toyota Echo pulled out from a private driveway into its path.

The driver who pulled out from the private driveway into the path of the Jeep was charged with reckless driving, Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts said.

Upon impact, the Jeep Cherokee veered to the left-hand side, went up on the sidewalk and struck the front porch of the apartment building, owned by CBS Rentals, he said.

Roberts said the Jeep damaged a tree, the retaining wall and the edge of the porch, but did not go into the building. About $1,500 of damage was done to the property, he said. The Toyota Echo received $4,000 worth of damage, and the Jeep Cherokee had around $1,000 worth.

There were no injuries to either driver, Roberts said. CBS Rentals declined to comment.
