Charlottesville Police identified two students who were injured early Saturday morning when a portion of a balcony railing suddenly collapsed at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house at the University. A James Madison University student is in serious condition, and a University student is listed in good condition at the University Medical Center, according to a statement released by Charlottesville Police.
Both individuals remain hospitalized with head injuries as of Sunday evening.
Officers arrived at the scene at about 2:30 a.m. where witnesses reported the two males fell about one story to the ground when the balcony railing they were leaning on gave way.
"The two were found on the ground, one unconscious, the other conscious at the time of transport by Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad," the press release stated.
The investigation has been transferred to City building inspectors who are currently working to determine the cause of the collapse.
