Over the hill

A study conducted at University College London shows that cognitive decline can start around age 45. Researchers found that men and women aged 45 to 49 experienced a 3.6 percent decline in mental reasoning. Although previous research showed cognitive decline to begin around age 60, Archana Singh-Manoux, the leader of the UCL research team, told the BBC that the study shows dementia may involve cognitive decline throughout two or three decades. Scientists say this is valuable information because dementia treatments are more likely to be effective when used just as an individual begins to experience mental decline.
