Cavaliers defeat Tech, West Va.

The No. 9 Virginia women's tennis team continued its early-season success at Blacksburg yesterday, dominating West Virginia 7-0 in the first match, before downing Virginia Tech 7-0 in the second match to maintain their perfect record.

In the morning, the Cavaliers (4-0, 1-0 ACC) swept all three doubles matches, continuing the strong play during singles action as Virginia did not surrender a single set to the Mountaineers (0-3).

Sophomore Li Xi cruised at first singles, defeating West Virginia junior Emily Mathis 6-2, 6-1. No. 30 senior Lindsey Hardenbergh triumphed in the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 against sophomore Mary Chupa.

In the afternoon's victory against rival Virginia Tech (2-1, 0-1 ACC), Hardenbergh came through again, beating sophomore Isel Martinez-Marcos 6-2, 6-1.

No. 29 senior Emily Fraser defeated Hokies senior Martha Blakely 6-3, 6-2 at first singles and also helped the Cavaliers sweep the doubles, winning her match with Xi against senior
