ACC names Gardner, Owen to all-conference women

Women's lacrosse standout seniors and co-captains midfielder Julie Gardner and attacker Josie Owen have garnered All-ACC team accolades, the conference announced Thursday.

Gardner, a Severna Park, Md. native, made the squad for the second consecutive season. Though her statistics have slumped from 2011's 60-point campaign, Gardner still tallied 14 goals, 12 assists and 13 ground balls in the regular season and remains an anchor of the Cavaliers' midfield. Gardner has started all 72 games of her four-year career.

After a solid first three years, Owen has enjoyed a sublime season on Virginia's attack, notching a team-best 36 goals, 32 assists and 35 draw controls. Hailing from Gibson Island, Md., Owen has notched two six-goal games in 2012 and boasts a scorching conversion percentage of .545. Owen has also earned a spot on the ACC All-Academic Team every year of her career.

No. 11 Virginia faces Boston College today at noon in Durham, N.C. at the 2012 ACC Tournament.
