Graduate transfer guard Nigel Johnson is averaging 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game this season.

Just before the No. 2 Virginia men’ basketball team’s game against Louisville on Wednesday night, Coach Tony Bennett announced that Virginia graduate transfer guard Nigel Johnson has been suspended for three games due to violation of team rules.

In addition to missing the contest against Louisville, Johnson will sit out for the upcoming road games against Syracuse and Florida State.

Johnson, a graduate transfer from Rutgers, is averaging 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds. Johnson had played in all 21 games this season prior to Louisville, and he recorded a season-high of 22 points against Davidson on Dec. 16.

This is the second year in a row that Bennett has suspended a player, with forward Austin Nichols suspended and eventually removed from the team last year.
