A burglary was reported to the University Police Department at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a University-wide email sent by Chief of Police Tim Longo Thursday. The break-in occurred between the hours of 4:09 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Madison Hall at 1827 University Ave., which houses the Office of the President and the Office of Major Events.
According to the email, the suspect was wearing a gray "Virginia" hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and shoes and left the building in an unknown direction. Officers are currently investigating the incident and what items were taken.
The burglary is the latest of five other breaking and entering incidents over the last week. Other incidents were reported in off-Grounds areas including University Circle, Grady Avenue, Virginia Avenue and Preston Place. According to Longo’s alert, the University Police Department is unsure whether the break-ins are related.
The University Police Department lists several tips to prevent break-ins, including locking one’s front door, reporting inoperable locks and latches to the appropriate maintenance personnel, limiting information posted online and keeping a written record of all personal valuables.
