The Cavalier Daily held its 134th term elections Monday, selecting third-year College student Ava MacBlane as the paper’s next editor-in-chief in an uncontested election.
MacBlane currently serves as managing editor and was previously a news editor for The Cavalier Daily’s 132nd term, as well as a news senior associate editor. She will succeed Eva Surovell, the current editor-in-chief of The Cavalier Daily’s 133rd term and a fourth-year College student. The new term will begin Jan. 20.
MacBlane said she looks forward to the upcoming term, citing The Cavalier Daily as one of the most important parts of her college career.
“I’m feeling immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve the University and Charlottesville community coming out of such a trying semester,” MacBlane said.
MacBlane’s goals for the term include standardizing literary and operational procedures, laying the groundwork for a digital-forward paper and continuing coverage of administration, the Board of Visitors and University and student life.
Third-year College student Lexi Baker, who currently serves as a news editor, was selected managing editor in a contested election.
Second-year College student Nathan Onibudo was elected executive editor in a contested election.
Third-year Commerce student Ava Proehl was selected operations manager in an uncontested election after serving as assistant operations manager and photo editor.
Second-year College student Charlie Healy was elected to the position of chief financial officer in a contested election. Healy currently serves as the paper’s finance manager.
Alongside its managing board, The Cavalier Daily also elected a new junior board.
Third-year College student Alexandra Holmes and third-year Commerce student Claire DiLorenzo were selected to be the assistant managing editors.
Second-year College student Honor Wood was elected assistant operations manager. Wood currently serves as a design editor.
Second-year College students Merrill Hart and Avery Donmoyer were elected news editors in a contested election.
First-year College student Mason Lewis was elected as advertising manager in a contested election.
Third-year College student Mix Rudolph, second-year College student Lexie Gagnon and first-year Engineering student Avery Suriano were selected to be design editors in a contested election. Rudolph and Gagnon currently serve as design editors for the 133rd term.
The 134th term’s sports editors will be third-year College student Jacob Tisdale and third-year Commerce student Ben Anderson.
Third-year Commerce student Cecy Juarez was re-elected as a life editor after serving in the position for the past two terms.
Second-year College student Haylee Ressa was selected as a health and science editor.
Second-year College students Jake Adler and Katie Pile were selected as podcast editors in a contested election.
Third-year College students Shaleah Tolliver and Grace Duregger were selected to be opinion editors in a contested election.
The 134th term’s arts and entertainment editors will be third-year College student Tanner Rowe and third-year Education student Olivia Garrone.
Third-year College student Camila Cohen-Suarez was re-elected as humor editor after serving in the position during the 133rd term.
Second-year College student Kaileigh Proctor was selected as cartoon editor.
First-year Engineering student Albert Tang was selected as a photo editor.
Third-year Batten student Ceili Canning and second-year Education student Covonna Bynum were selected as social media managers.
First-year College student Olivia Winesett was selected as a video editor.
Graduate student Marina Peebles and third-year College student Shuqi Ye were selected as translation editors for the Spanish and Chinese translation sections, respectively.
First-year College student Wilson Simmons was elected to serve as finance manager.
